Groff earns honor after impressive third-place finish in Kitzbuhel, Austria.

Triathlete Sarah Groff won the bronze medal at the ITU World Championship Series in Kitzbuhel, Austria. It was the first podium appearance for an American woman in the event. The 29-year-old from Hanover, New Hampshire earned her top career finish with a time of 2 hours, 6 minutes, 27 seconds.

“I thought getting seventh at Madrid a couple of weeks ago was pretty big – this is just a whole other level and I’m still kind of processing it,” she said. “Honestly, I just wanted to get another good race under my belt and I was hoping for the top 10, so to get on the podium vastly surpasses any of my wildest dreams right now.” Groff is USA TODAY’s Olympic Athlete of the Week.
