In addition to the exciting pro race, the ITU World Triathlon Series San Diego race will host the USAT Club National Championships.

See the announcement from USA Triathlon below:

Following a successful debut event in May with nearly 2,100 amateurs and the world’s top elite triathletes, the ITU World Triathlon San Diego is set to return to Mission Beach on April 18-20, 2013. In addition to the same races hosted in 2012, next year’s event will serve as the 2013 USA Triathlon Club National Championships.

Registration for all ITU World Triathlon San Diego age-group races is now open at sandiego.triathlon.org. Once again, Olympic-distance (1,500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run), sprint-distance (750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run) and Olympic-distance relay events will be offered in an iconic venue adjacent to the birthplace of triathlon. An aquabike race (1.5k swim, 40k bike) has also been added to the second edition of the race weekend.

The 2013 ITU World Triathlon San Diego elite races will serve as the second stop in the 2013 ITU World Triathlon Series, the world’s top Olympic-distance race series which crowns the annual ITU world champion.

“USA Triathlon is thrilled to once again partner with UpSolut and Lagardère to bring one of the world’s top Olympic-distance events to the birthplace of our sport in San Diego,” USA Triathlon CEO Rob Urbach said. “We debuted in 2012 to rave reviews, and our staff is already hard at work listening to the constructive feedback we received to make the 2013 ITU World Triathlon San Diego bigger and better. The addition of Club Nationals to an already exciting race weekend will only raise the profile of this remarkable event.”

Age-groupers from ages 14 to 90 from 42 states and 16 countries competed in the 2012 ITU World Triathlon San Diego.

“The Triathlon Club of San Diego is looking forward to having a world-class event in our own backyard for the second year in a row,” said Triathlon Club of San Diego President Stephen Banister. “The ITU World Triathlon San Diego honors the lineage of triathlon and highlights the beauty of this city. This race is a model for how triathlon can tie together a community of all ability levels and age groups. From the first-time triathlete working to improve his health, to the elite hoping to qualify for Rio in four years, this event has something for everyone.”

Official USA Triathlon clubs are eligible to compete for one of five national titles based on the club’s total membership size at the 2013 USA Triathlon Club National Championships, held in conjunction with the ITU World Triathlon San Diego.

Club Nationals scoring is based on individual performances in the age group sprint, Olympic-distance and aquabike races. Entrants affiliated with an official USA Triathlon Club will earn points for their club in the championship event based on their finish in any of the individual races.

Participating clubs will be placed in one of five divisions based on their full roster size:

* Division I: 250-plus Total Members
* Division II: 130-249 Total Members
* Division III: 89-129 Total Members
* Division IV: 30-88 Total Members
* Division V: 2-29 Total Members

To be eligible for club awards, club administrators must submit their full membership rosters to clubs@usatriathlon.org by Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Visit sandiego.triathlon.org for more information on the roster submission process.

USA Triathlon reached all-time high with more than 900 official clubs in 2011.
