Pro triathlete and runner remembered by her father at Arizona track meet.
The Chandler Rotary Track and Field Invitational on Saturday at Chandler High was stopped between the boys and girls Mile Split Mile races to remember deceased pro runner Sally Meyerhoff.
Meyerhoff, who was 27, was killed early this month when she collided with a truck riding her bike in Maricopa. Her father, Tom Meyerhoff, spoke to the silent crowd, breaking down at times, recalling the dedication of his daughter.
He also told the participants to take advantage of every day, much like his daughter did in her rise to pro runner and triathlete. He said she was going to sign a bike contract just before her death. Chang Rock n Roll Marathon in January and had qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials.
