April 14, 2011 – Revolution3 Triathlon has announced that it will dedicate its upcoming Knoxville event to the memory of Sally Meyerhoff, a triathlete tragically killed when she was hit by a pickup truck while riding her bike in Arizona this past March. Meyerhoff won Rev3’s Olympic distance and Half distance races in their inaugural Costa Rica event this past February.

Meyerhoff was best known as one of America’s top marathoners, being the first female ever to win P.F. Changs Rock n’ Roll Marathon and qualifying for the Olympic trials after her very first marathon in 2008. Only weeks before her death, Meyerhoff officially applied for her Pro card and signed her very first sponsorship deal with men’s grooming line, Jack Black.

In Meyerhoff’s memory, a spot will be reserved for her in the pro transition area and race number “1” will be assigned to her as well. Additionally, all athletes’ wristbands and bibs will be pink and pink CEP compression socks will be sold in her name, with proceeds benefitting The Sally Meyerhoff Foundation, which was established in her honor to raise funds for running shoes and clothes for the less fortunate. All3Sports.com is also offering $15 off pink CEP compression socks with coupon code “SALLY15.”

“Sally was an incredible athlete, on and off the field,” says Charlie Patten, President of Rev3. “It was an honor to know her. She will be deeply missed and we want to do all we can to pay tribute to her memory.”

Rev3 Knoxville takes place on Sunday May 15, 2011 and, like the Costa Rica event, features both Olympic and Half distance races, which are a .93 mile swim, 24.86 mile bike and 6.2 mile run and a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run, respectively. The event also features a weekend-long family-friendly celebration that includes a race expo, a family adventure race, concerts and a movie under the stars.

Rev3 has also put together a tribute video to Sally, which will be aired online and at the event. To see pictures and videos from her Costa Rica Rev3 wins or to learn more about the upcoming Knoxville race, visit Rev3tri.com. Since its inception, Revolution3 Triathlon has grown to include both national and international races, Olympic, Half and Full distances and encourages family, friends and spectators to experience the race along with the athletes who are competing.
