The Chiefs Super 14 Rugby Team, a professional rugby team based out of New Zealand, used a mini triathlon as part of its preparations for the upcoming season.

The Chiefs swam, ran and cycled their way around the Waikato University campus in sweltering conditions as part of their pre-season training regime ahead of next year’s Super 15 competition.

Team manager Stewart Williams said the mini triathlon proved competitive.

“There was lots of excitement and plenty of energy put into the triathlon – the entire team is in great spirits heading into next year’s competition,” he said.

A 200 meter swim kicked off the event in hot and sweaty conditions as Hamilton reached a top temperature of 27 degrees Celsius yesterday. A nine kilometer cycle and 3.5km run completed the event.
