An 1,100-acre training and racing venue will be the first of its kind in the world.

A new 1,100-acre self-contained training and racing venue is in the works near Wilmington, N.C., and will be the first of its kind in the endurance sports world. The TriHabitat (Trihabitat.com) facility will boast some incredible features: a 25-acre lake specifically for open water swimming, a permanent transition area with individual stations and a 14-mile paved bike loop and 6.5-mile run loop not open to motor vehicles. It will also include five stadiums with spectator-friendly sidewalks all along the course as well as rustic cabins and 50 full hook-up motorhome sites.

The facility will be open year-round for training camps and clinics, and in addition to triathlons, TriHabitat plans to host bike time trials, obstacle course races, kayak races and open water swims.

TriHabitat anticipates being open in 2016.
