Myrtle Beach Reportedly Submits Bid For Ironman

An Ironman triathlon could be coming to Myrtle Beach, S.C., according to Carolinalive.com.

The Ironman-sanctioned race would start with a 2.4-mile swim in the intracoastal waterway, a 112-mile bike ride on Highway 31 and then a full marathon that would start at Marina Inn at Grande Dunes and end at the Market Common.

The city put in a bid for a 5-year contract starting fall of 2014.

The plan is for the city to put up $25,000 and the Chamber of Commerce to contribute $15,000. According to the news piece, a new Ironman city could be announced next month.
