Ashley Wood and Patrick Lenaghan won Sunday’s Marin County Triathlon in San Rafael, Calif.
Ross’ Ashley Wood had her daughter in mind when she crossed the finish line to take the women’s title at Sunday’s Marin County Triathlon in San Rafael.
Wood, 40, finished in 2 hours, 24 minutes, 24 seconds to edge Mill Valley’s Shawn Brokemond (2:30:17), to claim the top women’s spot for the third consecutive year.
“I’m supporting my daughter Piper who has epilepsy,” Wood said. “Every race I do is in honor of her and all people with epilepsy.
“It’s a no brainer to do this race and I love that they promote that aspect (of an environmentally friendly event).”
Patrick Lenaghan, 29, an emergency room doctor from San Francisco and former track athlete at Georgetown University, was the overall winner in 2:03:15.
“The swim was beautiful, but the current was pretty strong,” Lenaghan said. “There were great conditions today.”
More than 900 people, including elite athletes from all over the country participated in the two-day triathlon event this weekend at McNears Beach.
