Fresh off of a win at Ironman 70.3 Hawaii, Linsey Corbin and her signature cowboy hat will head to Ironman 70.3 Boise.
The 31-year-old is known for her signature move — wearing a cowboy hat as she crosses the finish line.
“The motivation is always to get to the cowboy hat because you know you’re near the finish line,” Corbin said.
The tradition was born in 2004 when Corbin, a native of Bend, Ore., joined a local triathlon club in Missoula, where she went to school. One of Team Stampede’s traditions was for its members to wear cowboy hats when they finish races.
“We were kind of a rag-tag team that had hand-me-down equipment,” Corbin said. “But we’d go on crazy epic workouts and we’d drive through the night to get to races and camp before.”
Corbin turned professional in 2007 but didn’t forget her roots. Even though she now has sponsors that provide state of the art equipment and gear, the cowboy hat remains.
