Brian Lavelle and Erika Erickson take the victories at the Santa Cruz Triathlon.

Los Gatos’ Brian Lavelle, 36, completed the 1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run in 1:54:20 to win the event for the second time.

Berkeley’s Erika Erickson, 25, won the women’s race with a time of 2:11:13 in her first event since winning the 25-29 age group at the ITU World Championships in Beijing two weeks ago.

Lavelle, who also won the event in 2002, was the only other pro in the field. He earned a victory in Santa Cruz for the second time in as many months after winning the Santa Cruz International Triathlon on Aug. 15.

Last time, he celebrated with his wife Becky Lavelle, who won the women’s title at the International. This time, he shared the day with his father, Timothy Lavelle, who took second in the men’s 60-64 division.
