Is Verzbicas Leaving Oregon For Triathlon?

Rumor is that reigning junior triathlon world champion Lukas Verzbicas may be leaving the University of Oregon track team for a chance to return to competing in triathlons.

Rumor is that reigning junior triathlon world champion Lukas Verzbicas may be leaving the University of Oregon track team for a chance to return to competing in triathlons.

By now, most distance running fans will have caught wind of the Internet rumors that Oregon freshman Lukas Verzbicas is planning to leave the university and go back to training for the triathlon.

He is the reigning world junior champion in that event.

I have no definitive information regarding the rumor, but I did not see Verzbicas when the UO men gathered at Hayward Field prior to a training run today (Wednesday).

I was talking to UO head coach Vin Lananna about the Ducks competing in the NCAA West Region cross country championships at Stanford on Saturday, and when I asked him if Verzbicas was going to run, he said, “I’m not sure.”
