On the heels of the recent announcement of the Challenge Family and Rev3 merging, Ironman is partnering with the Life Time Triathlon Series.
On the eve of the 2014 Ironman World Championship presented by GoPro, Ironman and Life Time Fitness announced a collaboration to promote the growth of triathlon, and to welcome new athletes into the sport through education, expert training and premier events. Life Time produces popular triathlons, such as the Cap Tex Tri and the Leadman triathlon events.
As the official sponsor of the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 U.S. Series, Life Time’s 13 sprint- and international-distance triathlons will become the only U.S. races where athletes can earn valuable Ironman All World Athlete (AWA) and Age Group ranking points as a way to measure performance against other competitors.
Leaders from both companies are excited about the partnership. Andrew Messick, CEO of Ironman, called it a “unique synergy” that will help build a “continuum of events from beginner-level triathlons to Ironman triathlons.” Bahram Akradi, Life Time chairman, president and CEO, said that he also looks forward to the relationship and says that it will “advance the mutual respect and passion we all have for this sport.”
Life Time will continue to offer its endurance coaching and training programs at destinations nationwide, as well as at its Starting Line 101 Clinics and Indoor Tri events, to prepare athletes of all fitness levels for triathlons.
Registration for the 2015 Life Time Tri Series will open November 4, 2014. For more information visit Lifetimetri.com or Ironman.com.
