In Quotes: Brownlee, Gomez and Moffatt At London Press Conference

Alistair Brownlee, Javier Gomez and Emma Moffatt have all been talking ahead of this weekend’s 2010 Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship London. The Press Conference marks the start of an incredible weekend of racing that will see the best in the world compete over the Olympic course.

Emma Moffatt was clearly excited to be a part of one of the biggest sporting events to take place in London this summer. And she has been buoyed by her Olympic triathlon bronze medal in Beijing: “live the dream of travelling around the world and being fit and healthy, really just doing what you enjoy.”

Javier Gomez, who finally put his injury problems behind him with a win at last weekend’s Championship Series race in Hamburg, was full of praise for the UK’s young World Champion, Alistair Brownlee: “He showed last year he’s the best triathlete in the world. He doesn’t have weak points. Always in the top 4-5 in the swim, strong on the bike and very fast on the run. He’s the one to beat for all the other athletes.”

Finally, it was the man that everyone wanted to speak to: world champion Alistair Brownlee: “It’s a really strong field… and the fact it’s on the Olympic venue with two years to go, I think everyone is pretty motivated.”

He then spent some time discussing the support he received during his injury-plagued start to the year: “When things are going well you don’t think about the support you get and the sponsors. But there are times when I got injured and being able to say, when things aren’t working and being able to say ‘I want a scan’ and being able to get one within a couple of days [is great]. The medical support, the way that British Triathlon put so much physio and medical support to help me get me back on track. It’s just that, when you need it, it’s there.”

The Dextro energy Triathlon ITU World Championships race in Hyde Park takes place on Saturday (women) and Sunday (men).
