The Hy-Vee Triathlon brings money to the sport and to the Des Moines-area.
More than 1,700-athletes who competed in the triathlon aren’t from the Des Moines area, and many of them have stayed in the city for 4 or 5 days, giving hotels plenty of booked rooms.
Restaurants also realize the opportunity that the triathlon represents, and have taken steps to be extra inviting, to folks who are in from out of town.

In the end, all the extra people coming through, helps everybody’s bottom line.
“We would estimate conservatively a $3-million dollar economic impact for the community and area labor day weekend for hoteliers and restaurateurs, that’s big business.” said Tiffany Bausch from the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau.
