CNN Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta trained for and competed in the 2010 Nautica New York City Triathlon with a group of people looking to get healthy and change their lives, and he’s going to do it again in 2011.

Gupta explains why he’s doing the CNN Fit Nation challenge again in 2011 on his CNN blog: “I love goals, and the triathlon was one of them. I really enjoyed the race and left nothing out there on that hot day in July. I gave it every ounce of my physical and mental toughness. I realized, however, at that point, the race was just a formality. It was the journey that transformed me, moreso than the destination. I am going to do it again this year, and would love for you to join me. It changed my life, and could change yours as well.”

Unlike many triathlon groups, Gupta is looking for inexperienced participants. CNN is calling for people who need a little help getting fit, not people who have already raced a triathlon.

The six chosen contestants will blog about their experiences online.
