Organizers of the Denver Triathlon have announced that the race, set to take place Sunday, has been cancelled due to the floods in the Northern Colorado area.

Race director Chris Laskey posted a message on the race website, saying “In light of the massive Colorado flooding, and that many of our registrants hail from Boulder, Northern Colorado and other affected areas, we feel it difficult to hold the third annual Denver Triathlon as our thoughts have been with those that have been gravely affected. We believe that next weekend’s efforts would be better spent as a community of athletes helping our fellow Coloradans. It is with this in mind that the Denver Triathlon management team decided to cancel the race.”

The statement goes on to say that organizers are asking those who were going to race to use the time as a “day of giving” and to consider volunteering with the cleanup efforts on that day. Organizers will be donating registration fees to the American Red Cross of Colorado. Athletes have a choice to opt out of the donation.
