Professional triathlete Janelle Morrison is in a coma in a Calgary hospital after she was involved in a car accident on Sunday, Nov. 21.
Former Calgary school teacher Janelle Morrison was on her way back from her new home in B.C. on Sunday for a weekend fundraiser to boost her new career as a professional triathlete when a serious highway collision left her in a medically-induced coma.
And while the 33-year-old remains in B.C. hospital as doctors try to repair a ruptured diaphragm, a punctured lung and several broken bones, organizers of the event that had originally been planned to help her athletic dreams now hope it will help with her recovery.
“The two of us had struggled financially to do the professional athlete thing so we created this fundraiser last year,” said Morrison’s teammate Jordan Bryden.
“Now we’re just trying to use the event to make her some money to help with her recovery.”
