A new proposal to construct a massive multi-sport training center in triathlon-mecca Boulder, Colo. is being introduced.

David Saintsing — a Boulder resident, doctor and amateur triathlete — is under contract to purchase 20.2 acres of land that make up McKenzie Junction just north of Foothills Parkway’s intersection with the Diagonal Highway in northeast Boulder.

Saintsing hopes to use the land to develop an estimated $30 million sports fitness center called Boulder Element.

“The mainstay of it is going to be a membership-based athletic center,” Saintsing said. “It will be what we believe is the best, most comprehensive fitness center along the Front Range.”

He said the center would have a “slant toward the endurance athlete.”

“We define that person as the swimmer, the cyclist, the runner and the triathlete,” he said.

The development would include up to 75,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor training space — including indoor and outdoor lap and recreation pools. At that size, the facility would be smaller than the Flatiron Athletic Club in southeast Boulder, which has about 90,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space.
