Philadelphia police have recovered the body of a 40-year-old Prospect Park man who never completed the swim leg of the amateur sprint triathlon on Saturday. The department’s marine unit found Derek Valentino in the Schuylkill River at 1500 Martin Luther King Drive, authorities said. Earlier in the day, the still gray-green depths of the Schuylkill served an unsettling backdrop to Sunday’s sixth annual Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon. Instead of roiling with thousands of athletes, the river was crisscrossed by Philadelphia police boats and Coast Guard craft.
