The Birkdale Animal Hospital Kids Triathlon Series was the idea of Mark and Sarah McGough of Huntersville, N.C. and their triathlon coach, Kathy Goody. The trio realized that triathlons are a sport that most individuals don’t discover until adulthood. From that realization, along with a little inspiration from the McGough’s three kids, the Birkdale Animal Hospital Kids Triathlon Series was born. Unlike many kids’ series, this one is local and gives kids the opportunity to earn points for awards at the final July race. Additionally, all of the profits stay within the community, with the majority of the profits going to Barium Springs Home for Children.

So far, the 2009 series has one race in the books. View a photo gallery from the event below.
