After pulling off a historic trifecta in Germany, the Aussies hope to do it again in the Olympic test event this weekend.
World champion Emma Moffatt says she and her team-mates have the legs to repeat their historic triathlon trifecta of three weeks ago in a “show of force” at the London Olympic test event in Hyde Park.
Moffatt led an all-Australian clean sweep in the Hamburg leg of the world championship series – the first time the feat has been achieved in an international event.
And the dual world champion believes Australia is capable of replicating the feat again in one of the most important triathlons of the year on the course to be raced at next year’s Olympic Games.
“We are all looking forward to it and we’re all fit and hungry,” Moffatt said from her training base in France, after she, rising star Emma Jackson and Olympic gold medallist Emma Snowsill filled the top three places in Germany.
“Hopefully we can replicate what we did in Hamburg. It would be a bit of a show of force a year out from the Games.”
Aiding Australia’s campaign is the fact Moffatt has rated the London course very similar to the one they raced, and dominated on, in Hamburg.
“I think it will suit us,” she said.
“It’s quite flat, fast, very similar to Hamburg.”
The London triathlon doubles as an Olympic selection race for the Australian team.
An athlete can earn automatic selection by winning the London race and then finishing top three at the end of the eight-race world championship series, which concludes in Japan in September.
“It’s very important for selection. I think winning the race and you’d be pretty much in the team,” she said.
