Three-time world Ironman triathlon champion Chrissie Wellington among those “Running for Japan”.

Mara Yamauchi, Paula Radcliffe, and Chrissie Wellington are among a host of Leading British Olympic and Paralympic stars have signed up to the Run for Japan initiative, designed to show solidarity and support for the victims of last week’s devastating earthquake and tsunami in the north-east of the country.

British Olympian Yamauchi, sixth in the 2008 Beijing marathon, lived in Japan for many years with her husband, and said: “The scale of devastation in Japan caused by the earthquake is incomprehensible.

“Every day we see unbearable suffering and grief. It is heart-breaking to see such destruction. But we can support Japan in rebuilding.

“Through Run for Japan, we runners in the UK and around the world can support Japan in recovering from this tragedy.
