Fresh off penning an article for the NY Times on how triathlon has helped her defy her inner critic, actress America Ferrera competed in Saturday’s Desert Triathlon in La Quinta, Calif. Her husband, director Ryan Piers Williams, also raced with both opting to take on the sprint distance (500-meter swim, 14-mile bike and 3.1-mile run).
Ferrera posted this image on Instagram on Friday, the day before the race.

Ferrera finished the swim in 8:21, the bike in 56:08 and the run in 30:36, crossing the finish line at 1:41:47—good enough for 15th in the 30-34 age group.

This was not Ferrera’s first triathlon, and it won’t be her last. Last September, the star competed in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon, before rocking her race number at a pre-Emmys party the same day. She’ll next compete in the Lavaman Triathlon at the Waikoloa Beach Resort in Hawaii on April 2.
