While saving money continues to be a top priority for many people this season, it doesn’t mean that triathletes have to give up their favorite athletic pursuit.  There are simple ways for both new and experienced triathletes to get the best bang for their buck and continue training and racing throughout 2009.  Here are five tips that any triathlete can use to keep those extra dollars in the bank:

1) Join a local triathlon club to qualify for discounts

Most triathlon clubs deal with sponsors and supporters that provide discounts on a wide variety of products, services and even event registration fees.  A $20 annual membership can go a long way, especially when you can use it for a 5-15% discount on a new pair of running shoes, chiropractic adjustment or that nice set of race wheels you’ve been eyeing at the bike shop down the road.

2) Take advantage of early registration

Event registration fees are inevitably most expensive on race days.  Whenever possible, plan your racing schedule and pay event registration fees ahead of time.  A basic rule of thumb is to pay at least two months in advance.
