While many folks subscribe to the “every workout has a purpose” approach, sometimes it’s fun to exercise simply for the pure joy of getting outdoors. When better than Christmas morning to reinvigorate your love for running simply for running’s sake — and to get a dose of fresh winter air before returning to the snuggly warmth of home?
Professional Ironman triathlete Linsey Corbin is a Christmas morning running regular, and shares what makes the holiday run a particularly special one to her.
“I always go on a Christmas morning run — usually in the snow, which is the best part,” says Corbin. “I like to go somewhat early in the morning, when it’s quiet all through town, just as the light is coming up. You can run up and down the middle of the streets to get to the trailhead and peek into people’s windows as they are celebrating Christmas morning.
“I love a good trail run — nothing too hard, but just enjoying the peace and quiet of the woods is hard to beat. Last year, Chris and I saw a herd of elk! The best part of our Christmas morning run is coming home afterward. We have homemade cinnamon rolls in the oven and hot coffee waiting — yum!”
