A local said this week, “There may be big buildings and water, but it’s still a desert.” That desert now hosts posh modern amenities such as a F1 racetrack and an ever-expanding modern city, in addition to one of the world’s most competitive triathlons. The hot and windy conditions of the 2011 Abu Dhabi International Triathlon meant that just finishing the 3km swim, 200km bike and 20km run was an accomplishment.
