Though clearly not a self-contained smart trainer, this long-awaited accessory from Wahoo controls the height of a rider’s front wheel to simulate grade changes. The idea behind this device—aside from just being fun—is that different muscles are engaged at different body angles, from a 20-percent grade to a negative 10-percent grade. While the manual height changer is a nice feature, the CLIMB truly shines in virtual training environments like Zwift, where it does an excellent job of adjusting quickly to hills and descents. Surprisingly, even when maxed out at 20 percent, standing and sprinting on the pedals feels just as stable as if the front wheel was in a block, and—as is typical for Wahoo—setup is a snap. Note: The CLIMB is only compatible with a few Wahoo trainers (the KICKR ‘17 and newer, the KICKR SNAP, and the KICKR CORE).
