The Draw: Forward-Thinking Design for the Draft-Legal Racers

Specialized recently introduced the ViAS, a clip-on aerobar aimed at the draft-legal crowd. We found the bar to be quite comfortable for non-drafting athletes, so if you’re eyeing Specialized Venge road bikes as an all-around rig, you’ll want to look at these. The ViAS bar attaches directly to Specialized’s ViAS stem only, rather than clamping to a handlebar. Also unique to the ViAS is the large single pad, which we found allowed for many variations in forearm position. This bar is best suited to athletes riding on technical courses—it didn’t allow us to get into a particularly aggressive aero position, like we would on a long straightaway, as the options for hand positions are fairly limited. The ViAS’s standout features are its simplicity and lightweight design.
