Pro Bike: Dirk Bockel’s Blue Triad SP

Bockel broke off the front of the field at the 2008 Beijing Olympic triathlon, and he might try the same tactic this weekend aboard this Blue Triad SP.

Dirk Bockel earned the Olympic rings he has tattooed on his arm by racing short course triathlon for years, but the Luxembourger took his speed and strength to long course in 2009 and has already made a big impression. Bockel owns top-10 finishes at Ironman Hawaii in 2009 and 2010, along with a second-place finish at last year’s Abu Dhabi International Triathlon.

He will try to improve upon those impressive results riding on top of the Blue Triad SL for most of the season but, for now, he is on Blue’s mid-level Triad SP frame. Both Blue frames are designed to facilitate higher-riding positions rather than an ultra-low position, and this matches Bockel’s fit well. It is equipped with decidedly high-end Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 electronic shifting, a Shimano Dura-Ace 7800 (last generation) SRM power meter, Selle Italia SLR T1 saddle, Shimano Dura-Ace pedals, Pro Missile EVO aerobars, Schwalbe Durano tubular tires, a Suunto speed sensor, Pro Disc and Shimano Dura-Ace C75 front wheel. And he gets extra credit for his line of clothing with the clever slogan “Mind Bockeling.”
