While Pioneer’s double-sided power meter isn’t exactly stealthy, the relatively easy-to-install setup (one magnet attaches to each side of the frame) does produce some very unique metrics. Like other dual-sided power meters in this price range, the R8000 gives power, pedaling smoothness, L/R balance, and the statistics that emerge from that data. Pioneer’s version also collects force measurements throughout the pedal stroke to show not only if the rider is pedaling unevenly, but where force is being applied in the pedal stroke and in what direction along the circle. These very cool force vectors are output only onto the screen of Pioneer’s own computer or, recently, onto Wahoo’s. From there, the R8000 produces a smorgasbord of data and stats.
