New covers make Speedplay cleats more coffee shop-friendly.
Speedplay pedals offer a host of attractive features like dual-sided entry, a wide range of float adjustability and extra cornering clearance. But the main drawback to this pedal style is the walkability of the cleats (or lack thereof). Even the most fervent Speedplay loyalists will complain about how difficult it is to traverse the tile at their local coffee shop. Not only are the cleats difficult to walk on, they scuff easily and can be tricky to replace and maintain.
Enter the Zero Aero Walkable cleats. Speedplay made covers to address this problem in the past, but who wants to put on covers (or carry them around) every time they stop riding? You never have to take off the Zero Aero Walkable cleat covers and, as the name implies, the dimpled surface and streamlined profile make your cleats more aerodynamic. The rubber cover and hardware only add 19 grams per cleat, a small penalty to pay considering they’ll make your cleats infinitely more walkable. And if you really want to protect your investment, the cleats come with Cleat Buddies, which are plugs that fill the cleat’s center cavity when you’re walking through debris.
The Zero Aero Walkable cleats are compatible with any model of Speedplay Zero pedals and come in three colors: yellow, green and red.
