Online editor Liz Hichens reviews cycling gear from the new Luna Sport apparel line.
While in San Francisco at the Luna Chix Summit, I was given a bag of Luna’s new line of athletic cycling apparel. The line, called Luna Sport Clothing, wasn’t what I expected from a company that focuses its energy on making healthy, earth-friendly foods. The quality of the line parallels that of almost any cycling line on the market.
Additionally, the products I tested weren’t the “women’s version” of a product created for men. The products were made, fit and designed specifically for women. Of course in typical Luna fashion, these clothes are made to be as eco-friendly as possible. My favorite part of this line had nothing to do with the fit or function (although both were great); the best part was that every piece is cute without being overly feminine or pink.
Tranquility Short Sleeve Jersey ($100): The second I put on this jersey, I was relieved by the way it fit. Unlike many cycling jerseys, which seem to be fit for the male figure then crafted on a smaller scale, this one wasn’t too baggy and was proportionately correct from top to bottom. My favorite part of this jersey (and pretty much every piece in the line) was the cute, subtle design details. The contrast yellow zipper and Japanese flower print on the back pockets make this jersey functional and cute at the same time.
Eclipse Long Sleeve Jersey ($125): This jersey has more fun design features, including a Japanese plum branch print detail. When I received this piece, I was unsure of how often I would use it in beautiful San Diego. I had just moved here and wasn’t quite aware of the chilly, overcast mornings. Over the past couple of months, I have worn and rewashed this jersey an uncountable number of times. This jersey is perfect for those mornings when it’s not quite cold enough for a jacket, but a short-sleeve jersey just won’t do the job.
Epiphany Knickers ($180): In the past I would avoid anything longer than shorts because I found all pants and knickers to be uncomfortable and unflattering. Thankfully, Luna Sport came out with the Epiphany Knickers and solved all of my problems. The knickers were cute, flattering and comfortable. This piece, paired with the Eclipse Long Sleeve Jersey, has gotten a lot of wear in the cooler mornings and I’m so grateful to have both items in my closet.
