The Draw: Rock-Solid Starter

The Norcom Straight 2.3 stood out in the lineup as the stiffest all-around bike we tested, featuring shockingly good acceleration and razor-sharp handling. The price is tough to beat, though it did come with a few (easily fixable) caveats: The Oval aerobars didn’t give the adjustability we would have liked on an entry-level bike, and the Vision bar-end shifters required a decent amount of effort to actuate. Components aside, the Norcom is still a fine starting bike for athletes racing 70.3-and-under distances.
