Sam Long—popularly known as “The Big Unit”—has a reputation for riding through world-class fields and throwing down big watts on the bike. This is the third generation Trek Speed Concept (size XL) that he’ll be aboard on his mission in St. George.
Long uses 51 SpeedShop prototype bars (that are being released soon), a 76 Designs computer mount, and a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt bike computer.
Long rides DT Swiss wheels: ARC 1100 DICUT DB 80mm on the front; ARC 1100 DICUT Disc on the rear.
With a SRAM Red eTap AXS 1x, no front derailleur, and a 54T front ring, Long runs a 12-speed 10-33 rear cassette. For St. George, he’ll be riding Schwable prototype tires, 25mm on the front, 28mm on the rear. He said he’ll likely run tire pressure around 80 psi, but will decide closer to race day.
Long uses an Ice Friction chain to help improve drivetrain efficiency and will get his power numbers from a QUARQ rotor-based power meter.
Long uses 140mm rotors on his hydraulic disc brake set up.
All that power gets put through Long’s Wahoo Speedplay Aero pedals on 172.5 mm cranks.
Long pays close attention to detail with his bike set up and maintenance.
The 51 SpeedShop bars used by Long are prototypes that will be available soon. He rides an ISM PN 3.0 saddle.
