Race week for the 2021 Ironman World Championship has officially kicked off in St. George, Utah. The Ironman Village, located in Town Square Park of downtown St. George, opened up to athletes from around the world to begin check-in for the race on Saturday. Athlete check-in continues through Thursday, while the Ironman Village will be open to all through Friday and race day on Saturday.
Another Ironman tradition inspired the next generation of Ironman athletes through the Ironkids run. Youth ages 1-17 were eligible to compete in a quarter-mile, half-mile or a 1-mile run course. The event saw hundreds of young participants, who were greeted at the finish line by age-group and pro athletes who will race this weekend.
Following the Ironkids race, the local Dixie High School Marching Band led athletes from 81 countries, regions, and territories as they enthusiastically celebrated their accomplishments of making it to the Ironman World Championship. Athletes were seen wearing their team shirts, waving flags, and cheering as they marched down St. George’s Main Street and through a tunnel of country flags in the Ironman Village.
