Former Australian swimming official Bernard Savage will take over Triathlon Australia’s (TA) high performance program at a crucial time for his new sport.
Savage will leave his post as swimming’s high performance science manager to succeed Michael Flynn as the national performance director for triathlon.
Savage will run the program in the lead-up to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Erin Densham’s bronze medal at the London Games meant that Australia is the only country to have won medals in triathlon in all four Olympics.
But her outstanding performance and Emma Jackson’s encouraging eighth place cannot hide some major problems in Australian Olympic-distance triathlon.
The men have fallen badly off the pace, with Courtney Atkinson only finishing 18th at the London Games.
