American Sarah Groff talked to USA Today about the London course and competing in her first Olympic games.
After spending the winters training in Canberra, Australia, and the summers training at high altitude in Davos, Switzerland, Groff made her first Olympic team. The 30-year-old will be one of 55 women swimming (1,500 meters), biking (43 kilometers) and running (10K) through London’s historic Hyde Park in pursuit of the gold medal. The women’s race is Aug. 4.
Groff finished seventh at the test event in Hyde Park last year.
“It’s a pretty straightforward course. It’s not terribly technical. It’s in downtown London, so it’s pancake-flat. It’s a great spectator course. The format we do is multi-lap, so spectators should be able to see athletes passing through quite a bit, if they position themselves well, at least.”
