Twenty-six schools currently offer NCAA triathlon programs for women, with USA Triathlon working hard to demonstrate sustainability within the 10-year window that started in 2014. While it’s currently an NCAA Emerging Sport, the goal is to permanently become a fixture at the collegiate varsity level. (Learn more about that process here.)
In triathlon’s short NCAA history, the program at Arizona State University—which is led by coach Cliff English—has dominated at the Division I level since the program’s inception in 2016. At Sunday’s Women’s Collegiate Triathlon National Championships in Tempe, ASU’s Hannah Henry earned her second-straight individual national title with her teammates finishing in the next four positions.
