The finish line at iron-distance events is one of the greatest elements of the sport of triathlon. Challenge Roth boasts perhaps the most exciting final hour in the sport. The finish line quickly turns into a party as the sun goes down, with thousands of people packing the stadium and pros handing out medals to the final finishers as the music is blasting. As the night winds down, every spectator in the crowd is handed a sparkler to hold and the entire stadium illuminates as the last finishers are loudly cheered in. Challenge Family CEO Felix Walchshofer thanks the crowd, the volunteers and the athletes in a heartfelt speech. The night is capped off with an incredible firework display. Triathlete senior editor Jené Shaw was on hand for the festivities Sunday night at the 31st running of the event and called it “like no other triathlon finish line I’ve ever been to.”
