The 2012 Ironman 70.3 Boise triathlon can easily be named one of the most unique races of the 2012 season. The day started with cold and rainy conditions forcing officials to shorten the normally 56-mile bike course to a sprint-like 15 miles. Because of the cold weather and short bike, many athletes chose to wear wetsuits on the bike. And, if that wasn’t enough to deal with at one race, the men’s pro race came down to a sprint finish. New Zealand’s Callum Millward and the United States’ Matty Reed crossed the finish line at what appeared to be the same time. Millward was originally declared the winner, but after reviewing the photos officials decided to declare a tie. On the women’s side, Great Britain’s Jodie Swallow took the win in convincing fashion.
