It was a day of records at Saturday’s Challenge Wanaka triathlon on the beautiful New Zealand course. New Zealand’s own Dougal Allan first broke his own bike course record (4:27:37) and then went onto establish a new course record – crossing the finish line for the victory in 8:26:38. That time broke Richard Ussher’s previous record time (2010) by nearly nine minutes. The women’s race was almost a repeat of 2016, with Yvonne Van Vlerken (NED) and Laura Siddall (GBR) battling throughout the day. In the end it was Van Vlerken who was victorious, taking the win and the course record in 9:15:44. Siddall was chasing her all the way and finished just 27 seconds behind.
