The TriRock Triathlon Series kicked off the 2016 tour Sunday morning in San Diego, the birthplace of triathlon. More than 1,200 participants took part in the seventh annual TriRock San Diego swim, bike and run in and around San Diego harbor. Andrew Shore finished for the men’s intermediate race in 1:47:25 with Jessica Rocheleau for the women in 2:02:34. Tyler Hoffman topped the podium in the men’s sprint in 57:56 and 2006 Ironman world champion Michellie Jones in 1:00:48 for the women.
“It was perfect, gorgeous out there,” said Shore, who is coached by fellow champion Michellie Jones. “A little rough on the road, but otherwise it was really nice. It was marked really well which made it a lot easier. This is my second podium this year. I finally broke the tape for the first time in 14 years. It’s been a lot of fun this year.”
This was the first year for a new springtime date and also featured a new intermediate swim course. The weather was ideal for the triathletes with a comfortable 69 degree water temperature. All the participants closed their race with a picture perfect finish along the water and under the San Diego sun. For full results visit TriRock.Competitor.com/San-Diego/results/2016-results/.
