A strong age-group field headed to Florianopolis, Brazil for Sunday’s running of the 2016 Ironman South American Championship race. As a championship-level race, there were 75 coveted Ironman World Championship spots on the line. Athletes started with a 2.4-mile, two-lap swim at El Divino Beach. They then went on to a mostly flat (with a few major climbs) two-loop bike course, which featured rainy conditions this year. They completed their day with a marathon made up of a 13-mile loop and then two 6.5-mile laps. Photographer Wagner Araujo shares images of the age-group action above, and see photos from the pro race here. Recap the pro race here.
