As the last weekend of Kona qualifying, several professionals were doing the race for a last-ditch effort to earn enough KPR points to be offered a spot.
Paul Ambrose emerges from the water in fifth at 58:48.
Amanda Stevens was the first female pro out of the water, completing the swim in 58:38.
Matt Russell and Chris McDonald come out of the water in just over an hour with some work to do to catch the leaders.
Mary Beth Ellis is second out of the water in 1:00:59.
American Mary Beth Ellis hammered through the bike course in 4:59:24, earning a lead of 12 minutes over fellow American Laurel Wassner to start the marathon.

This was Chris McDonald’s second Ironman in eight days. McDonald finished second and Ironman Vineman and then seventh at Ironman Mont-Tremblant. After the race he tweeted, “This whole backing up Ironmans thing was a lot easier 8 years ago”
Australia’s Paul Matthews was third off of the bike and fourth at the finish line.
American Jordan Rapp was second off of the bike with a 4:30:35 split.
American Chris Leiferman was seventh out of the water and fourth off of the bike.
Romain Guillaume had the fastest bike split at 4:30:34, but ended up pulling out on the run.
