More than 2,900 registered athletes competed in the 2016 edition of Ironman Florida in Panama City Beach and its surrounding areas. The two-loop swim took place in the Gulf of Mexico, while the one-loop bike course was flat and fast. Athletes then enjoyed a flat, two-loop run course which parallels the shoreline through local neighborhoods to the turnaround in St. Andrews State Park. The event offered 40age-group qualifying slots to the 2017 Ironman World Championship.
