Austria’s Michael Weiss claimed the Ironman 70.3 Santa Cruz victory on Sunday with a 27:18 swim, a 2:04:36 bike and a 1:13:08 half-marathon, crossing the finish line at 3:50:25. While Weiss dominated out front on the bike and the run, it was a close race behind him with several athletes vying for podium spots. Ultimately Denis Chevrot (FRA) and Ben Hoffman (USA) claimed second and third, respectively. 70.3 Santa Cruz is part of a test Ironman is doing where men and women compete at different events. Only women will compete at Ironman 70.3 Augusta in two weeks.
