It was a pair of Canadians who took the titles at Saturday’s Ironman 70.3 Hawaii on the Big Island.

Brent McMahon (CAN) continued to impress at the 70.3 distance, posting a 24:39 swim, a 2:12:38 bike and a 1:19:00 half marathon on his way to the 3:59:35 victory. Three-time Ironman world champion Craig Alexander (AUS) chased McMahon all day and crossed the finish line in second, but was later disqualified for his choice of apparel.

“I was DQ’d today for wearing a sleeved tri top in a non-wetsuit swim. I take full responsibility for not knowing the rule,” Alexander tweeted after the race.

With Alexander taken out of the mix, Benjamin Williams (USA) earned second and Karl Bordine (USA) was bumped onto the podium in third.

In the women’s race, Angela Naeth (CAN) rode her way to the front and held onto the lead through the run. She crossed the finish line in 4:30:53. Local athlete Bree Wee (USA) had an impressive run to finish second, with Melanie McQuaid (CAN) claiming the third spot.
