Australians Chris McDonald and Kate Bevilaqua earned the late-season victories at today’s Ironman Louisville in Kentucky.
Men’s Race
McDonald was fourth out of the swim (48:56), first off of the bike (4:29:14) and the first to complete the marathon (2:57:56), giving him the win in a time of 8:21:34 and a new course record. The victory is Mcdonald’s third on this course. Last year’s winner Patrick Evoe (USA) had to settle for second this year at 8:34:16. Thomas Gerlach (USA) replicated his third-place finish from 2012.
Women’s Race
Bevilaqua earned her 9:29:02 win thanks to a 49:03 swim, a 5:13:32 bike and a 3:20:02 marathon. Canada’s Brooke Brown had an impressive pro debut at the Ironman distance, finishing second just over four minutes back of Bevilaqua. It was a close race to decide the podium, with American Whitney Garcia earning the third spot at 9:34:21.
