Australia’s Chris McCormack and the United States’ Laurel Wassner walked away with wins at today’s South Beach Triathlon in Miami, Florida.
Despite a small professional field, the men’s race came down to the final seconds. After leading off of the bike American Chris Lieto tried to keep a strong pace on the run to keep McCormack behind him. His efforts were successful until the final stretch, when McCormack out-sprinted Lieto to the finish line for a winning time of 1:15:11. Lieto settled for second at 1:15:12.
In the women’s race, Wassner dominated by leading from start to finish. She finished at 1:26:10. American Jenny Fletcher was second at 1:30:43.
