Denmark’s Jimmy Johnsen and New Zealand’s Britta Martin earned victories at the final Ironman of 2012 at Sunday’s Ironman Western Australia in Busselton.

Johnsen kept the leaders of the men’s field within his sights on the swim and bike before dominating the final leg of the race with a 2:54:42 marathon. He crossed the finish line in 8:29:06 to take the win. Germany’s Horst Reichel led the men out of the swim, fell back a couple of positions on the bike and posted a solid marathon to finish second. Australia’s own Matty White rounded out the podium thanks to a well-paced day across the three disciplines.

Martin spent much of her day trying to make up for a slow swim time of 1:02:13. Her 5:00:11 bike and 3:06:10 marathon propelled her through the field, giving her the 9:13:00 victory. Australian Rebekah Keat looked to be in prime position after the swim and bike, but couldn’t keep pace with Martin on the run and had to settle for second. Another Australian, Rebecca Hoschke, earned third. American Bree Wee was the leader off of the bike and ultimately finished fourth.
